Beloved Pets, here and hereafter
I don’t know if everyone has noticed, but at the bottom of the Custom Dyes page is this series of photos featuring a set of skeins dyed to replicate Sannybug’s coloring

illustrating how a set of skeins can be custom-dyed to match a beloved pet. I’ve done pets, grandchldren’s eyes, favorite sports team colors, and a variety of scenes from people’s vacations.
It started 4-5 years ago, and I don’t recall if Sannybug was the first, or among the first, but she’s been the model for showing off the technique. Last night her owner let me know that Sannybug had to be put to sleep last week. Certainly a sad time for her owners, but also some sadness for me as her skeins marked the start of a different kind of dyeing service for me apart from what other dyers were doing.
Dani has sent me several new photographs, showing Sannybug in in different light, various poses, and a couple of shots at some amazing green eyes that I had not seen before. It will be an honor to create Sannybug II with this new understanding of her beautiful colorings.
Doing custom-dyes and color-matching can be tricky, and I admit I don’t always hit it spot on, in spite of my best efforts. But I do try my best, and it really is an honor to create a memorial for a beloved pet. The more reference photos I can examine, the easier it is to find the right colors.
So this is something I’ll be working on over the next couple of weeks, and I’ll be posting pictures of the completed project once Dani is happy with the results.
Thanks Ray this has brought tears to my eyes 🙂 I cant wait to see what you come up with.
