Knitterman Does Sneakies!
A while back one of my customers (Hi, Jennifer!) ordered a BRS laceweight yarn. Her little girl loved it and wanted a dress made out of that color. So she came back and ordered enough Phydlbitz to crochet the dress her daughter wanted.* When I found out the girl was just 5 or 6, and already making color and yarn choices, I figured I’d do a little sneaky and maybe raise the bar on what custom-personalized service can be.
Her mom posted a year-end school picture of some sort, but it was a good clear picture of her daughter, so I snagged the picture and created a label just for her, to be used on her skeins of yarn.
And now that she’s received it, her mom reports she LOVES it!
And now that this went over well, I’m wondering if other people might want to include customized labels on yarns they intend for a gift. I won’t do heavy editing, of course, but if there is a clear and simple picture of the intended recipient, I’d be happy to include their picture on their yarn. Or maybe gifting a yarn to match a beloved pet, I can put the pet’s picture on the label.

* Ordering repeats of BRS is easy! Just find an example of what you like from previously dyed BRS yarns, and then when you fill out the order form, just select the type of yarn you want, select “Custom” as the colorway, and in the Special Instructions box you write “Similar to BRS13-xxx” but replace the xxx with the actual BRS number. I won’t guarantee exact match to the original BRS but however many you order of that type, I’ll dye them together so the ones you get will match each other.
Great idea!!! What a fantastic gift this would be.
Fabulous idea. When I knit an item as a gift I always include at least one yarn label so the recipient knows the brand, fibers and washing instructions. This type of label would certainly be a bonus. Great idea.
