An Era Ends; An Era Begins
Okay, maybe that heading is a little dramatic.
When I started dyeing here in Houston, 7+ years ago, I got a collection of bar mops for soaking up dyes, instead of going through rolls and rolls of paper towels.
They have served me well, both for dyeing as well as general kitchen clean-ups, blotting bacon, and all sorts of other things. And for a while I’ve had these on my Wish List to get more because they were just beginning to be worn, as well as heavily stained. These in the picture are among the more tolerable ones, others were just too horrid to keep even this long.
Yes, Bustercat was none too impressed that I opened the door and unceremoniously dumped the towels to push into the trash can later. Regardless what he may think he does not own the porch and does not have permanent dibs on that particular spot. LOL
Well, thanks to several good friends around the Internet, Several items on my Amazon Wish List were acquired for me, including a new floor fan — super essential for drying yarns indoors when it rains (y’member my last one was broken during the floor repairs last summer), some syringes for targeted dye application when the squeeze bottles don’t fit, plenty of shower curtain liners for draping the kitchen counter as I work, a couple boxes of extra-wide food wrap for forming pouches for individual dyeing, and … ta-DAAA! Way more towels than I can use in a day!
That rolling kitchen cart (received from a friend’s estate when he died) is the perfect height for holding the plastic wrap where I need it, and just right for the stack of towels behind it, in easy reach as needed. A stretchy bungee holds the plastic wrap so it stays in place.
So that is pretty much my work space, and thanks to soooo many friends, it is now well-enough stocked I can keep working with all my essential tools close by. Next up, reordering some of the dyes before I totally run out! Woo-hooo!
