Squeeee!
Okay, so the yarn orders were sent up the end of last week, and yesterday I got confirmation on the orders AND the UPS delivery tracking information. It’s the biggest single shipment of yarns I’ve ever had, so it’s a pretty big deal for me. I’m sure other indie dyers put up huge orders all the time, but they are also stocking local yarn shops and building inventory to go to the shows and so forth. I’m not in competition with them in that regard, just trying to be a better Knitterman than I was last year or when I started.
Also, some of you know I’ve had some “issues” with computers and monitors lately. I won’t go into all the travails of my life on the keyboard — other than to hint at monitors that won’t turn on when I push the button, or computer boxes that turn off mysteriously for no obvious reason.
You know I got the new Web cam on Sunday. And last night, this precious baby walked in my door, a gift from a local friend…..
It’s an HP-Omni All-in-One. My friend had it but she was given a new laptop, so she had all her stuff on this computer moved to her laptop, then had this one wiped clean and made like brand new. You can see it still has the original ‘brand new’ stickers and stuff all over the front, and the mouse still had the little twisty-tie thing keeping the cord wrapped up. For all intents and purposes it’s a brand new computer.
And because it is WiFi enabled, and I’ve already gotten the networking stuff mostly worked out, I can easily move it to the kitchen, set up the new Webcam there and more easily make dyeing videos, turn around and pause things when I need to instead of having to run to the living room where the main computer is. I am totally jazzed about this, and I’m looking forward to making videos.
I will tell you right up-front. I will NOT be video-taping ANYthing to do with my proprietary color recipes or a few other things like that. But I am happy to share common artistic ideas like how I apply color for the various effects that I use. Anybody can learn a new technique now and again, but artistic elements cannot be taught. You either have it or you don’t, and there are some things I’d rather not give away freely.
As for the yarns that are coming — over 70 pounds, across 24 cones. I made sure that there will be plenty of yarns to fill EVERY order currently awaiting yarns — including all the newest Turmultiquoise, plus making up for some bad Amethyst & Emerald hanks and any other recent orders awaiting yarns. And once all those are done, there will still be SO much more yarn left over for experimenting! Woo-hooo!
Also, many years ago a friend gave me an outdoor canopy so that I could work outside without being in direct sun all the time. It was destroyed in a thunderstorm wind gust that sent it out into the drainage ditch. So last night I was given enough to buy one that was on sale for a super deal advertised at Academy Sports, since I was overdue to go there for new shoes anyway — I am SO glad I looked at their online sales flyer for the week. Well, when I got there, they had an even better deal on a model that more adequately fits my space and suits my needs just fine. I don’t host parties or have big gatherings, so this one will cover me as I stand to skein yarns or whatever. Or just sit outside knitting and sucking an adult beverage. 🙂
So anyway… as I mentioned previously, things are happening behind the scenes this week in preparation for the yarns to arrive next week. Wheeee!
