trying gradients again!
Until the foam strip comes to restore my knitting machine, I’m not knitting up new blanks, but I had a few blanks already done and I was waiting for inspiration to hit as to how to do them.
I did two Knitterman’s Lace skeins yesterday:
The navy one looked all darkness until the very tip, but a flash photo in daylight helps to see the range of color in it:
and here is the daylight with no flash version:
The Navy version can be had by request (first come, first served) by sending me an email. It will be $30.00 plus boxed shipping inside the U.S. [eta: It has now been SOLD!
The Teal has already been sold, but it came up like this:
I’m sure you probably already thought of this, but how about possibly spreading out the gradient across two blanks? For most shawls, two skeins would probably do it…
That might be good for the sock yarns, although I knit those up double-stranded so that it will create two matching socks.
I have no idea what most shawl patterns call for in laceweight. My lace skeins are 1000 yards. And most people buying my lace yarns only buy one, or if they buy more they aren’t normally Twinsets or even noticeable compatible, and I usually don’t know what people make with it.
Ah Ray, I ave been coveting gradient yarns and those 2 were gone before I could get here! So very sad. You simply must do some more gradients like this in the lace yarn for us..
maybe even 1 and 1/2 skeins of the lace yarn would give plenty of yarn for most shawls.
I absolutely despise weaving in ends especially on lace projects and tend to pick most of my shawls using yarn with sufficient yardage to complete a project. Most of the projects I choose have a yardage requirement of anywhere from 1000-1500 yds of lace yarn and most of your lace fits that parameter.
And I guess I’ll have to start sending you pictures of what I have made with your yarn 🙂
Well, Truth, you are in luck! Since I will be getting many many cones of Knitterman’s Lace in the near future, there’s a very good chance I will be creating more gradient dyed laceweights. Knowing now how much additional work goes into creating the blank and then rewinding it later, they will be more expensive, of course. But for the right project, having the right yarn makes it even better. Can you suggest some color combinations you might like to see?
I love blues, greens (except for lime green or other neon greens), purples… I think any combination of those would look awesome… or even tonal gradient. Not worried about the extra cost… your yarn is worth every penny and your prices are reasonable. That’s why I come back for more. I also am a fan of reds some darker browns hope that helps
great! That information helps guide my color selections. 🙂
glad it was a help 🙂
