A Word About Shipping

Knitivity Posted on 29 August 2017 by Knitterman29 August 2017

A couple of orders have come the last couple of days from the Blog Reader Specials page, which is AWESOME (Thank you!!). From what I could tell on the USPS.com website, my local area post office is apparently open, but … Continue reading →

Harvey, Home, Evening Update

Knitivity Posted on 28 August 2017 by Knitterman28 August 2017

Okay  so things were mostly sorta kinda okay-ish at Donna’s last night.   Then we discovered the circuit breaker on the well pump got tripped from the water.  And then the water kept rising.  Oh, what fresh hell is THIS? … Continue reading →

New Week Begins, Old Storm Lingers

Knitivity Posted on 28 August 2017 by Knitterman28 August 2017

Well, whattaya know …. I only slept from about 10:00 last night until just right at 2:00 this morning.

I am still at my daughter’s house, we will have lights.   And food.   The water is so high around everywhere that we could not easily leave if we wanted to.  The trucks are high enough to maybe get out of the driveway, but there is no telling what roads may or may not be passable.

I am very fortunate that I’m not sitting alone at my home.  As of yesterday, the water had not risen up into the trailer.  My landlady got this picture yesterday around mid-day (click to enlarge) and said there was still electricity there.

But I’m not there, of course, and that was yesterday.   The water around here (at my daughter’s home) is still rising, a couple feet deep, but the house is high up so there’s no water in the house, and I’m typing with the lights on so we have power to the main house.

If  you are viewing the news on television, you are seeing some horrific images of other people with problems much larger than my own.  For me, I just have to wait for the water to go down, then find a way to get back home, and THEN I can assess the actual personal impact.

In the short term here, it seems the water has risen high enough to shut off the well pump.   But there’s loads of water around for pulling up buckets for toilet flushings. 🙂

Meanwhile, I’ve been working on the Rustic Shawl, and after completing an entire band in my intended color sequence I discovered I used the WRONG COLOR for 24 rows.   Well, phooey!  Nope, not gonna rip it out and fix it.   Haven’t the time or patience for that.  We’ll just pretend it really IS “rustic” and pretend I meant to do it that way.  Hahaha.    I only brought the one project, so we’ll just deal with it, right?

Harvey Update

Knitivity Posted on 27 August 2017 by Knitterman27 August 2017

I’m Fine!    But, ohmahgawd, the water is rising! I’ll post some pictures later, but if you’re looking at TV you’ve probably seen worse situations from other parts of the area. For now, I’m safe at my daughter’s house just … Continue reading →

Oh hell…. who knows what’s gonna happen?

Knitivity Posted on 25 August 2017 by Knitterman25 August 2017

Looking worse and worse for Texas.

Yes, I know I’m not in the worst part of Texas, and I’m not going to get it as bad as other folks.   I’m really trying to keep it all in perspective.   But I have storm-related PTSD and I can’t just shut that off on command.   Just a while ago I got all showered and shaved — I had to use both hands to steady the razor, I was shaking so bad.   Anyone who shaves knows that the blade strokes downward in a smooth stroke; it’s really not a good thing to shake the blade back and forth sideways. 😀

I have no idea how much flooding will occur in my neighborhood, or if I will even be able to get back in the house right away or if there will be electricity.   I know there is yarn supposed to arrive on Thursday, but without electricity I won’t be able to process it.  As with Hurricane Ike, this storm may affect me ability to make money.  But for now I am okay, so we’ll just think positive thoughts and hope for the best.  🙂

Think happy thoughts.  🙂
