An amazing dye session!
I had a slow start this week, but I was finally able to get this weeks Blog Reader Specials dyed up.
First up, I finished the preemie hat for Kade. Other people have also indicated they are sending one or more, and they should be arriving today or Monday, so I’ll send them all together to my granddaughter. Because of the unexpected emergency C-section with twins, and subsequent passing of one of them, my granddaughter’s family is facing a lot of unexpected bills. A portion of my sales all this week and weekend will be donated to a GoFundMe account set up for them by my daughter in law, but even if you aren’t buying yarn you are welcome to contribute directly to the family.
For this week’s Blog Reader Specials I used Superwash Targhee/Nylon fingering, and 100% Merino DK.
The Merino is not superwash, so dyes tend to migrate freely, which led to some interesting combinations as the wet dyes moved around on wet yarn. For the SWTarghee/Nylon I used mostly a dry-dye technique which allowed for bolder colors.
As is my current habit, all of these were dyed as twinsets, allowing for larger projects to be completed with assurance the colors play nicely. Each skein is of course unique, but by dyeing them together in the same pouch with the same dyes you have a single “dye-lot” and by alternating the yarns every couple of rows, you can be confident the yarns knit up together just fine. Sometimes, even with my Twinsets, if you knit all of one skein and then all of the other, it may be noticeable that you changed yarns; alternating yarns minimizes pooling and the colors are consistent throughout even when the sequence changes a little bit.
When appropriate, I have rotated one skein of each Twinset so you can see all the colors that appear on both skeins of the Twinset.
To claim the ones you want just email me with the BRS18-___ number shown directly above each skein. All of these will be ready to ship on Tuesday (Feb 6). I’m pushing to ship on Monday, but definitely by Tuesday.
All the unclaimed Blog Reader Specials have now been been posted to the Blog Reader Specials page; click through there to see which ones are available at the time of your visit.
