Happy New Year!
Wasn’t sure I would make it, but here we are in 2019!
My trusty Sony CyberShot camera (about 12 years old) bit the dust recently, and I’m using a new-to-me (but old/used) FujiFilm XP camera. Learning how to use it is ‘fun’ (hahaha … NOT) and I’m still getting accustomed to how it handles but I think I’ve got it. It will suffice for now, but there needs to be a new one within a few months. Not a crisis, and I’m not concerned; just something else to adjust myself to, I suppose. 🙂
The bigger crisis is that my main (and only) computer is on its last legs. It’s been turning off and doing other things for a few months, I thought it utterly died a few days ago and it just wouldn’t turn on AT ALL. Crisis mode, for sure. A couple of friends helped out enormously (along with taking money set aside for utility bills) and I was able to order a decent replacement, along with an external hard drive for backing up stuff. That will arrive on Thursday. And with additional sales the last couple days, I got enough to cover the utility bills again, so as far as I know (and assuming nothing else goes wrong), I’m okay and not hurting for funds. But thank heavens for friends who helped get my life sorted. Love you guys!
I was able to bring the computer back to life, but for safety I’m doing no more than necessary on this one. I’ve been using my smartphone a LOT more than normal lately, for Web stuff, but I couldn’t figure how to upload yarn pictures to the Blog Reader Specials page, so I reshot all the BRS yarns and uploaded them just a few minutes ago.
I could be upset and angry that my equipment is dying, but I’m choosing to start 2019 on a positive thought — starting with new equipment and a renewed enthusiasm.
Over the weekend, one of the most prolific lace-knitting designers, Leo Pola (aka MMario) died. It was suggested I make a special memorial colorway in his honor, but after thinking on it, I’m going to be re-instating the “After Hours” Collection, which he loved and ordered lots of when I had it available. It will be available only for a limited time as a custom-dye option for those who want it.
“After Hours” started with the ones on the left — reminiscent of a dark rainy night when you only see the reflecting neon signs on the rainy pavement in reds and blues. Then I left off the reds and made “Sensatorium” with just the black, purple, and blue. And “Luscious” is the same colors, just the reds, purple, and black, minus the blue. Pictured here is the Collection from a few years ago, but I will be re-dyeing new ones this weekend to show you. If you are interested in any of these (or a 3 skein set, 1 of each) just drop me an email and let me know. I’ll have regular order forms after dyeing over the weekend. I will likely have to order more yarns, so this Collection will be pre-dye ordering, with 2-3 week turnout, so it will be a different process from the BRS, which are shipped immediately.
Okay, as for the last BRS Collection of 2018 (previewed in the previous post below) — all of the unclaimed yarns have now been photographed and posted to the Blog Reader Specials page. Shown below are the group shots of the ones available now, but be sure to click through to see what is available at the time of your visit.
