I hope all y’all are doing well.

Here in Houston we’re turning toward fall, and many of this week’s colors are definitely autumnal.  I understand many of you are already experiencing some pretty significant snowfalls.   I saw a post on Facebook this week that read:

Snow only happens in October because some people insist on decorating early for Christmas. Stop it.

Now, I now that’s not true and it’s meant as a joke, but it expresses how some folks feel about the white frosty flakey stuff so early  in the year.  One thing is for sure — we’ve had some seriously wacky weather this year, and even now there’s another potential tropical storm (TS Zeta) brewing that may threaten the Gulf Coast this coming week.

Anyway, I can’t change the weather or much of anything else in the world, so I just try to keep doing my own thing while I can.  I pulled out two dozen skeins of Superwash Merino Sport/DK (280 yards), and dyed them up yesterday.  I was torn on which colors to use.  Most weeks I start a dye session by pulling out 8 or 10 colors for my ‘palette of the day’, but I had a few leftover dyes from a custom job done earlier in the week, so I started there for the single skeins, and kept adding different colors through the day for the Twinsets.  By the end of the day I’d used all my normal mixing jars and most of my squirt bottles.

All of these are 100% Superwash Merino and come with a fairly firm twist. I’m not sure if they’d count as a heavy sport weight or a light DK weight, so I call it a Sport/DK.  When I started knitting and crocheting almost 50 years ago, I’d never heard of DK – the five-and-dime stores I shopped only had Baby, Sport, and Worsted weight yarns to choose from. Later on I discovered laceweight and bulky yarns, and today there are sooo many different types of yarns it is difficult for me to keep track of which yarns bear what names.  Many knitters go by yardage rather than by what it’s called, anyway, so you can call it what you like.

One of these would make an nice scarf, cowl, or hat; a Twinset would be enough for a simple light shawl, or cozy slippers.
