Well, sometimes I still surprise myself and learn new tricks.

This week I decided to use a light finger/heavy laceweight yarn, 85/15  19.5 micro Merino/Silk blend, specifically for those who really like doing lace knitting, but don’t like the way some of my multi-color yarns interfere with viewing the lace stitchwork.   And using what I learned recently about how to make a better solid or nearly solid on Phydlbitz Sock, I figured I’d try that technique on this base.  Because it is not superwash, I knew the colors wouldn’t strike immediately but would migrate around a little bit, helping to even out the coloring.

Some of these turned out very well, and others still had a slight splotchy tone; still the same color, just more saturated in some places. Once knit up, it should present as a vibrant organic monochrome    #103-104 are going to be overdyed — the brown dye that I used isn’t a pure dye but a composite dye, mixed at the manufacturer of several colors, and I failed to thoroughly dissolve it so there are some noticeable red marks where the red dye molecules dissolved later in the steamer.   I plan to overdye that Twinset to even out those glaring red spots, and I’ll show those when they are done.

There was another Twinset that I mixed brown and navy; when it was wet it looked like dark chocolate, but it didn’t come out that way in the end at all.  I can’t even remember if it was 107-108 or 117-118, both of which have navy in them.

All in all, I am happy with this week’s efforts, and I learned some new things that I can apply in the future.

Due to increased humidity this weekend, the yarns will take an extra day or so to try, but I expect to ship these on or before Wednesday.
