We are definitely in the throes of summer, no doubt about it.  I hope All Y’all are surviving wherever you may be.   And today in the U.S. we are observing Independence Day.

I spent yesterday dyeing up a bunch of Phydlbitz II.  It is the same fiber content from the same mill, just put up into hanks instead of cones.   Because there may be a slight difference in how it feels and a little extra yardage (by about 15-20 extra yards!), I’ve decided to identify it differently by name, although the details on the label are the same — 75/25 Superwash Corriedale/Nylon, 430 yards, because that’s the information given to me by the mill.  My supplier was out of cones for a while, then suddenly had some in stock, and when I went to get more they were out of stock again.   As long as I can get cones or hanks, I’ll take what I can get and identify them accordingly.  Also, the pre-measured hanks cost a little bit more per pound for me, but until the prices go up in the fall, I’ll just keep the price the same for  you.

Anyway, I was able to prepare the yarns on Friday, and get them all dyed yesterday.  I wasn’t sure how they would turn out, but I am fairly pleased with them all.  I used several different techniques for getting the dyes onto the yarns.  They are shown on the racks to show contrast one Twinset to the next, and not in the order in which I dyed them.

I won’t describe all of the yarns, since most are self-evident, but some warrant a comment. As much as I can, I try to make sure the pictures show the actual colors, without altering or ‘enhancing’, but everyone’s monitors can be different.  As always, these are the actual yarns available, and not representative of a larger number of skeins.  The numbered yarn you see is the actual yarn you will get. If you need a different picture of a particular pair, feel free to ask.

I do remember that Twinset #580-581 was the very first yarns I did yesterday – it is a sprinkle dye of just charcoal and was the only Twinset done with just a single dye.  As you can see, once it got into the steamer, the dye migrated around and made a very interesting visual that would look great in socks for man or woman, or even a light-toned summer shawl.  Every other Twinset is a combination of two or more dyes, either sprinkled, segmented, or blended into a dip-dye solid (like #560-561 and 574-575).

Twinset #576-577 is a two-tone faded schmear of the charcoal and straight gray, which migrated out to reveal some pale blue-gray shade — this is an effect from how the factory creates the dye powder as a composite of multiple colors.  I can’t control that, so I’m always fascinated how the dyes sometimes separate and migrate on the wet yarn in the steamer.  🙂

Twinset #564-565 is a sprinkle-schmear of reds and browns.  #568-569 is a two-tone schmear of dark royal and charcoal.  #584-585 is a combination of charcoal, gray, and reds, in a segmented or sectional dye.   As much as I can, I try to make sure the pictures show the actual colors, without altering or ‘enhancing’, but everyone’s monitors can be different.  As always, these are the actual yarns available, and not merely examples of some larger number of skeins.  The numbered yarn you see is the actual yarn you will get.

With forecasted rains off and on all week, along with our regular high humidity, I expect to get these all dried and ready to ship on or before Thursday.
