Last Weekend of January 2023

Knitivity Posted on 27 January 2023 by Knitterman27 January 2023

I can’t believe how quickly the time is passing — already it is the Last Weekend of the Month!  I haven’t done a LWotM sale in a while, so let’s do one to close out this month.  I might not … Continue reading →

Ready for Spring

Knitivity Posted on 22 January 2023 by Knitterman22 January 2023

Golly gee whiz, it is chilly this morning in Houston.  Yes, I realize it is downright c-c-cold in other places, so I dare not complain too much.  I had to be outside to manipulate yarns in the cold and wind, … Continue reading →

Twinsets and Single Skeins

Knitivity Posted on 15 January 2023 by Knitterman15 January 2023

Happy Sunday!   I hope January is treating you well.

This week I pulled out dyes without paying attention. Usually I try to get one or two reds, a couple blues, and something from the yellows. This week, I ended up not having anything from the reds, but plenty blues, purple, and violet, plus a yellow and a gold.  I also pulled out some black and gray.

These are all done on 100% Superwash Merino in a worsted weight, 210 yards in each skein.  These are excellent for quick knits or crochet, and great for scarves, hats, etc., i.e., “One-Skein Wonders.”  I thought I was dividing them equally into Twinsets and Single Skeins, but obviously I can’t count as I work.  🙂

The black I have on hand is actually a blend of two different blacks from two different manufacturers, so it comes up as a deep-deep charcoal. Twinset #49-50 is a mix of black and gray, while #72 is a solid in the black.

I was looking at this week’s colors and thinking which would be good for infants/toddlers or older kids or adults, and then realized that colors aren’t restricted to age groups any more than they are for genders.  All of these colors would work for anyone who wants them and for whatever sort of project you want to knit of crochet.

I am thinking of pulling a random skein in the next few weeks to design a combo-craft hat of crochet AND knit into springtime hat/beanie, but I would love to see what sort of projects you might come up with.

SWMerino, worsted wt., is normally $27.50 per skein, but you can have any of this new collection (BRS23 – #49 – 72) for $25.50 when you claim them today or tomorrow (Sunday or Monday).  I expect these to be ready to ship on or about Thursday, after reskeining and labelling.

To claim the ones you want, send me an email with your selections. Upon payment of your invoice, I will purchase and print your shipping labels so if I finish processing these yarns early, I can ship before Thursday.

What will become of these?

Knitivity Posted on 9 January 2023 by Knitterman9 January 2023

A chilly start to the week this morning, but not as bad as it was a couple weeks ago.  Supposed to reach 80º today, but another cold front moves through midweek and Thursday won’t get much above 60º or so.   A friend recently described this as “whiplash weather,” and I have to agree. Even so, Houston doesn’t have it nearly as bad as many other places, so I’ll keep my comlaints to a low rumble.

I saw my ophthalmologist on Wednesday for a post-cataract-surgery follow-up.  He says the eyes are healing just fine.  I told him I can see clearly but not sharply.  Long story short, I walked out with a new Rx for glasses, I’m looking forward to getting new glasses.  No regrets.

So, anyway, I didn’t get this week’s yarns dyed until yesterday.  I started last week with 10 jars of fresh dye,  and ended by mixing/condensing the leftovers down to six jars.  I added four fresh jars for this week’s dye session and I’m pretty happy with most of the results.  I also used several different techniques of layering, splattering,  dipping, and pouring.  There are several Twinsets that would fit into the Lullaby type (Twinsets #25-26, 29-30, 39-40, 43-44, and 47-48) — soft, bright multicolor combinations that seem to me as suitable for baby projects — little sweaters and booties, baby blankets, and so forth.  I keep thinking that with enough of the Lullaby-type dye jobs, there will soon be plenty enough for a modular knit or crocheted baby blanket of mitered squares, granny squares, or something similar.

Phydlbitz Sock yarn is, of course, suitable for socks for any age group and stitch pattern/technique, but there are always some amazing scarf and shawl patterns.

All of this week’s Blog Reader Specials are on Phydlbitz Sock,  a 75/25 Superwash Corriedale/Nylon blend, with 430 yards in each skein.  A single skein is plenty enough for an average pair of socks, but with a Twinset you can make knee-highs, or an ample scarf, cowl, or shawl.  Coming into Spring, Phydlbitz Sock would make comfortable light-weight wrap, and because it is a superwash/nylon blend, it can be washed/dried in a gentle cycle, sometimes using a mesh laundry bag for larger garments to avoid snagging.

Phydlbitz Sock is normally $27.50 per skein, but for Monday and Tuesday, you may claim any of this new collection (BRS23 – #25 – 48) for just $25.50 each.

I expect to have these fully dried, reskeined, labeled and ready to ship on or about Thursday.

To claim the ones you want, send me an email with your numbered requests.  I’ll send your invoice, and upon payment I will purchase and prepare your shipping label so when the yarns are processed and ready I can ship quickly.  Let me know if you are outside the U.S., so I can calculate your shipping costs individually, so you can accept or decline the changes before I submit your invoice.)

Knitivity Posted on 1 January 2023 by Knitterman3 January 2023

Happy New Year! I hope everyone’s holidays were as wonderful as can be.  For my part, it’s been a pleasant and quiet time, although last night the neighborhood fireworks were several times worse than I remember them being.  Other people … Continue reading →
