Amazing Depth of Color!
Happy Tuesday!
Got a late start with this most recent collection of Blog Reader Specials, again mostly due to weather issues. With basically no rain in over a month, it was a treat to have a little 10-minute spritz a couple nights ago, but I doubt it did much good. It has been over 100º most of this time, and reached 109º a couple days ago.
I’m happy to see that I’m reaching my minimum monthly quota by having at least 800 skeins dyed by the end of August, or 100 a month. Now, if I could just figure a way to sell that many as well …
Anyway, after I returned from clinic yesterday I started the process and got all 24 skeins dyed before too late into the evening. As I was dyeing, I felt like they were mostly too dark, but after the wash-and-rinse process, I am happy to see I was mistaken. I should remember that yarns nearly always look darker when wet.
These are all Phydlbitz Sock (75/25 Superwash Corriedale/Nylon, 430 yards each), which in my opinion is superior for long-wearing socks, but it also great for lacework and other lightweight knitting. While many of this week’s collection are deliberately multi-color and great for self-striping spiral striped socks, there are many skeins rich in more subtle multi-color variations that lend themselves to lacework in ways that the coloring won’t distract from the stitching.
Specifically, I think Twinsets #782-783, 788-789, 792-793, 796-797, and 802-803 have just enough depth of color to be interesting without distracting. More importantly, since they aren’t single flat colors, whatever you knit with these can be worn with a variety of outfits and still look fabulous. Solidly solid colors are great, of course, but you can get those from commercial mills. I try to offer one-of-a-kind colors and colorways that you won’t readily find elsewhere. And because of how I dye, it is unlikely I’ll repeat a colorway, at least not on purpose. So if you see a yarn that speaks to you, it is better to get it while it is available.
Normally, Phydlbitz Sock is $27.50 per skein. However, for today and tomorrow (Aug 28-29) you may claim any two or more from this week’s collection (BRS23 – #782 – 805), matching or not, for just $25.50 each.
To claim the ones you want, just send me an email with your numbered requests. Soon as I see your request, I’ll mark it off the Available Yarns tally chart below, and then send your PayPal invoice.
edit to add: Because the yarns were dyed late, I expect to be shipping these on Friday or Saturday.
