We’re almost to the end of October.  I was concerned I might not make it, but here we are.  Last week I dyed up a collection of Mini-Skeins, each with a unique number, but I repackaged them into bundles with new numbers — check them out down below, under this week’s new collection (BRS23 – #1006 – 1029).

After learning last month that my long-time supplier would be retiring, I was delighted to discover my regular end-of-month order went in this week with the new supplier, and all went smoothly.  It was delivered yesterday.  Because we are forecast to have rain for Monday and Tuesday, I had to process a few cones and dye up a new collection last night so I could get pictures this morning for you.

I went into the dye session with some very interesting color combinations.  Twinsets #1010 – 1011, 1018-1019, and 1026-1027,  for example, are examples of colors done in a fade technique that I don’t think I could duplicate if I wanted to.

And Twinset # 1024-1025 is a Dump Dye at the end of the session, using up the last of those colors; I wasn’t sure those colors belong together, but they came out surprisingly well.  Twinset #1012-1013 is another Dump Dye, using up all the red and red-related dyes all mixed together, resulting in a gorgeous deep nearly solid wine.  This Twinset in particular would make an amazing lace shawl to wear over black, charcoal, or even ivory.

Of course, as is my habit many of the Twinsets were dyed in multi-color arrays that will make amazing socks.  Most socks made with my dye jobs will be fraternal twins rather than identical twin, but I think that is part of the magic of hand-knit socks.  I think I’ve mentioned several times that I am a fan of using solid contrasting colors for sock toes, heels, and cuffs.  Fortunately, with the mini-skein bundles currently on offer (shown down below and also available on the Blog Reader Specials page), you can now have an assortment of mini-skeins that are ideal for that purpose.  🙂

I have a slightly different collection for you this time.  A few regular Phydlbitz Sock Twinsets, and a bunch of mini-skeins (just over 100 yards each).  Plus, further down the page are some Charm Squares for quilting or other crafts.

First, the yarns — I wasn’t expecting to have full size skeins until the end of the month but I did find (surprise!) 3 partial cones that had a few skeins left on them.  And, since I’ve been pulling mini-hanks from remainder cones, I dyed up a bunch of those as well.

The Twinsets are fairly self explanatory — each done with multi-color slap-dye technique.  All of the mini-skeins were dyed as solids.  In order to keep them from becoming a tangled mess, I bundled 3 minis together, but I ran out of rings, so two of the bundles have 6 mini-hanks.  (It’s amazing how useful shower curtain rings can be!)

Twinsets skeins are 430+ yards per skein.  The minis were measured out at 100+ yards each.  I always add 5-10 yards extra in all my hanks, so there is plenty of yarn in all my yarns.

Full-size skeins of Phydlbitz Sock are normally $27.50 each.  For Sunday and Monday, you can claim any of today’s full size skeins for $25.50 each.

The mini-skeins are $7.50 each, but for Sunday and Monday you can have any or all for $7.00 each.  Feel free to mix-and-match whatever combination you like.  Because the yarns in each bundle are identical, if you want one that has been claimed, I may send a different one from the same bundle.  I will, of course, notify you if all the mini-hanks of a bundle have been claimed.

And now for something a little different.  If you’ve been around a while, you probably remember the Big Surgery I had in January 2020 (aortic bypass).  I had to stop working a month or two before then, and was recovering for a few months after, during which time I could not work as I normally had.  I was going stir-crazy and ended up buying two huge fat-quarter bundles:

There were 42 fat quarters in each bundle, so I had 84 fat quarters total.  I thought to myself, “Tra-la-la, I’ll take up quilting (again) in my copious free time.”   I’d been sent a lovely fairly new sewing machine  but it had smashed in shipping due to mishandling, not in the original manufacturer’s box (I didn’t have the heart to tell my benefactor at the time, it was such a thoughtful gift), and another machine from a friend needed more refurbishing than I was skilled enough to give it, so that went to my granddaughter.

BUT … I did acquire a large self-healing cutting mat and rotary blade, and eventually got around to ironing each fat quarter and converting all the fat quarters into 5″x5″ charm squares.  I figured even someone like me could use one of the gazillion patterns for charm squares and make quilts for the kids or grands.  I’d actually considered getting an equal number of white and black charm squares to make a bunch of half-square triangles, which inspires loads of other beautiful geometric patterns.

Alas, it’s been over three years and I have to face the fact that I probably will not get around to using these squares for quilts.  I may one day have a machine and other means for making quilts, and I really do want to, but for now I have to let these particular squares go.

I looked up pricing, and most places have 42 squares for $10.95 – $12.95.  I paid well over $350 for the two fat quarter bundles.  Having done the work of ironing and rotary cutting, I am willing to let the full collection go for $240.00 (which is a flat $10.00 per 42 squares), or $130 if you want only half of them (i.e., just 12 squares per pattern instead of 24).

Obviously, this is a one-time offering, so if you are interested please let me know.  I can ship yarns internationally, but I will not be shipping these outside the U.S.
