Block of the Month - 2011Materials:
Each of the Blocks are made on a garter stitch grid, measuring 61 stitches wide and 61 ridges (122 rows) tall. The charts, when provided, include ONLY 59 stitches wide - the first stitch of every row is always slipped with yarn in front, the last stitch of every row is knit. The charts DO NOT include these knit/slip stitches, but should be included in your cast-on of 61 stitches. Each line on the charts is actually TWO rows of knitting, with the direction of knit indicated on either side. The odd numbered rows are worked on the right (front facing) side, the even numbered rows use the same color as the previous row. In this way, your garter stitch ridges appear as solid colors. Square BordersEach square is designed to include a 4-ridge border: When you have completed the final row of your square, you have 61 stitches across the top of your work You now have 224 stitches on your needle. Purl the next round. Change color (round 3 & 4) Knit the next round, making sure to knit into the front and back of the first and last stitch on each side, so that each side has 63 stitches. Purl the next round. Change color (round 5 & 6) Knit the next round, making sure to knit into the front and back of the first and last stitch on each side, so that each side has 65 stitches. Purl the next round. Change color (round 7 & 8) Knit the next round, making sure to knit into the front and back of the first and last stitch on each side, so that each side has 67 stitches. Purl the next round. You may choose to bind off all stitches, or leave them on a strand of waste yarn until you have additional squares made. Joining the SquaresThere are many ways to join these squares. The simplest method would be to kitchener the edges together. Or you can bind off and sew them together, or you can crochet them together. January 2011 (PDF)

All of the Block of the Month charts and brochures are offered completely free of charge for personal use only. However, it is well known I've been operating in the red for some time, so if you'd like to pitch a few pennies into the Tip Jar, it would be most appreciated so I can continue providing free patterns/projects and give a boost to my recovery from last year's horrendous events. Thank you! |
