Quick–Two Cool Specials

Okay, I got the Superwash worsted dyed up earlier this week and they’re finishing drying.    Here’s the one lone remaining uncommitted skein that was just sitting there like a lump of spaghetti, feeling so pitiful, so “left-out”.   So I gave it a splash of this and a dribble of that…. letting it have a bit [...]

Fun Socks!

Y’member I showed you the other day the socks I’d started.    Well, this is as far as I’ve gotten:

If you know me at all you know that I cannot be bothered trying to find matching starting points of color repeats.   At best my socks can only be fraternal twins, not identical.  As mentioned before these [...]

Yarn! Skeins! Tornado!

Okay, so I (FINALLY) got yarns in the house.  Late this afternoon, UPS brought me a box of SuperWash, and within minutes after FedEx brought me a box of Dura-Lace.  Woo-hooo!
So tomorrow morning I’m going to be prepping some sock yarns, and some superwash and some Dura-Lace… I can’t promise I’ll get EVERYthing dyed in [...]

Interesting… a sock!

Okay, so y’member the other day I said I was going to make a Fake Sock?    Well, maybe not.    This is what I started:

See the safety pin?  That’s there to indicate the start of the round.  Actually, at the beginning of that side of the sock is the start of the round.   And, of course, [...]

All a kerfluffle!

waiting for yarns to arrive to fill various orders… <*yawn*>
The last few days have been a bit of a jumble.  Knitting on those corn-fiber socks, which I’m not entirely loving, but now that I’m approaching the heel of the 2nd one I’m getting an idea for how to address the leg portion, since I’ve done [...]

Here we go!

Y’member the sock I was making with corn fiber?   Well, I finally turned the heel.
(and don’t be copying off of my mystical notations!)
Here’s the whole sock so far:

The other sock will, of course, have to START with the blue yarn and have the heel in the deep mushroom-y color, because it is a universal [...]

Pocket Square Done

Yaayy… it worked!   it worked!
Ya see? I told ya it was a square!

See the pocket?   No?   Okay, here it is:

The stockinette (smooth) side faces inward into the pocket.   I’m still debating whether to include a 2-inch ribbed band above the pocket. Judicious shaping allows the pocket to be a little wider than the 6-inch square.  [...]

Opinions, critical eyes, constructive criticism, please

Okay, so I did it.
I made a first draft of an advertising banner for use on Ravelry.  Whattaya think?

You can click on it for the full size image.

Looks like Candy?

Over the past couple days I’ve been working out a project/pattern for machine knitting another hat for the Charity Hats Project.
This is a prototype of what was in my head.  I have already modified my instructions for the next one, but I sort of like where this one is going, except for the brim.    I [...]

Okay, call me stupid

I went looking for some help to soothe my head, and found exactly what I needed — a measured schematic for exactly what I wanted.  Duuhhhh….  doesn’t matter that it is attached to someone else’s design for some amazing colorwork (in this case, one of Kaffe Fassett’s sweaters), because it’s all just flat knitting and [...]

Tuck-and-Eyelet Prayer Shawl stitch pattern

This is the pattern for the Tuck-and-Eyelet Prayer Shawl I showed you yesterday.
This is pretty much all there is to it. Mostly I alternated SSK and K2tog just for appearance. It is being done on the LK-150 knitting machine (stitch dial=5), but hand-knitters can easily adapt the pattern to [...]

It works when you listen.

Moving right along! Woo-hooooo!
I don’t always listen well, but when I do listen, magical things happen. Yesterday I screwed up the prayer shawl. This morning I went back to it, determined to make those diagonals work.

I undid the bad part, took it back to where I could begin again. [...]

I can’t sleep

So I’m lying there in bed, right?  Pillow fluffed, blanket covering all important parts, I’m sprawled diagonally across the bed… mind racing.
Guess what I’m thinking.
No, really … guess!
OMG! How did you DO that?
How on earth could you have known that I was wondering how much longer until I get my Ravelry invite?? That’s [...]

Truly Tuesday!

It’s such a good day!
Jo, over at Celtic Memory Yarns, just wrote up about her intentions for the Merino Lace yarn she got in the Watermelon Ice color — knee-high lacy socks. Now, Jo’s write-up of her vision for the finished socks would make a good girl blush (well, in another era perhaps), [...]

School Colors, eh?

Okay, so I’ve got my School Colors pages all up and posted (link from the front page). Just for curious I went online to see if there might be a list of school colors, which might make it easier for me to pre-package some of the more popular ones.
HOLY CRAP! Well, I [...]

Begging to become a shawl?

this interesting picture is fairly calling out for someone to replicate into a shawl, don’t you think?

(see a bigger one here)
The cool thing is that I don’t have to dye any yarns for it.  I’ve already done that!  Can you image these beautiful flowers being replicated in a shawl (or skirt???) pattern in Honeydew [...]

Help for Greensburg

As noted on the front page, I was finally able to find someone near Greensburg who has contacts and avenues for receiving and then distributing hand-knitted goods for those families who lost everything in the tornado last week.
Thanks to a note from a GLB-Knit member, I was directed to a woman putting together blankets for [...]

Woo-hoooo!!!!

I got the scrubby colors done for the X-Foley-8R kits, right? I mentioned I’d given my daughter the sample pictured below and asked for comments. She hasn’t commented here on the blog yet, but she just informed me that she has to have a dozen more. She really really likes [...]

Projects Updates

Some of these you’ve seen before.  These are what I’ve done this week.
This is the progress on the Opposite Socks:

And a little more progress on the Grey Shawl:

And this is what I did last night.   I had just dyed a bunch of the new yarns for the Down Home line, and was amazed at [...]

The Shawl in Gray

I mentioned the shawl the other day and then failed to show some pictures, so I took a couple this morning showing last night’s progress.  The first shot is with the flash:

and this one with the flash turned off shows the ridges a little better:

Every 6th row is an increase row; it’s the right-side round [...]
