Uhh… spoke too soon?

Dingleberries!!!    Drats!!!
Okay, so I got SOME softwares loaded up on the borrowed computer, and was doing fine online this morning.   Shut down for mid-day nap, got up and turned it back on…. and it’s frozen.     I don’t know what happened, or why, but this is totally weird and frustrating.
Anyway… I’m working on stuff.  More later, [...]

WHOA… much better news this time

Okay…. I’d resigned myself to daily trips to my daughter’s for a while yet to come while I figured out how to get a computer and back into the internet.
I was lying on the floor watching America’s Got Talent and there came a knock at the door.    My next door neighbor came over bearing one [...]

Updates in reality

Well… so Amber let me borrow her old computer.
Comcast came out to connect it to the Internet, because I didn’t have the right sort of connection.   Apparently her computer is so old, Comcast software/hardware isn’t compatible.  The guy tried for an hour or more to make the CD drive read from the modem installation CD….
Dammit.    [...]

ohmygoooodnessss!

As if nothing else could go wrong….
up to my eyeballs in financial stress, and this afternoon my home computer died.   Thank goodness I remember my essential passwords so I can get into the blog remotely.
Anyway… until I can buy a new computer I’m going to be working remotely whenever I can from my daughter’s house.
When things [...]

And now it’s a T-shirt, too!

Okay, so yesterday I posted the new canvas tote bags with The Will to Live on it. Now it’s available on a T-Shirt from Spreadshirt.

And you can get it with or without the text printed on it.

The Will to Live

Okay… in a blatant attempt to increase future income, I have posted one of my original mandalas for sale as a Tote Bag.    Times are tough and I’m having to explore additional streams of income.
“The Will to Live” is represented by a sprouting seed, resting on nothing but the Tao, with the sun glowing behind [...]

Ready for Winter?

Yeah, I know….  with heat index running up into triple-digits, I can’t imagine anyone is thinking of winter time mittens.   But the reality is that winter DOES come eventually, and the sooner you are ready for it, the better off you will be.
I made these Sock Yarn Mittens last year for the relatively mild Houston [...]

More goodies to fondle

Hi there!
Where’s the stuff I already ordered?
I have nearly all the older orders (>4 weeks), as well as the most recent blog reader specials, skeined and ready to pack and ship, and the funds were set aside for that. This past week, my internet (i.e., my income-production method) was cut off because I hadn’t paid [...]

Doo eeet! Dooo eeet naio!**

Check it out!    This is from PZ Myers post yesterday, Mary’s Monday Metazoan: Racial tensions in the insect world

Just LOOK at the magnificant patterning on this little critters.     And then imagine what either one would look like in a stole?    I’m going to work on that, but if you come up with something before [...]

Mid-Month Blog Reader Specials

(Note: it’s been a hellacious week and I’m off to bed… all requests will be answered in the morning and will be honored based on the email time-stamp for when your request is sent — my email automatically adjusts emails to CDT, so it will be fair for all, no matter your local time zone.) [...]

Quick Update

Hi there:
It’s been a strange week, and I apologize not posting.   My son-in-law has been diagnosed with a rather rare disease, and much of my attention has been on learning about it, and so forth.    My daughter and her family will face trying times ahead, and even though I’m not right in the middle of [...]

Mr. Brown Came By Today!

LOOKIE !!!!!

Which, when safely dragged into my lair and burst open, revealed:

Laceweights and laceweights and … oh!   even more laceweights!!!
Plus some COLORED laceweights (more yet coming in most recent orders).
Which, when loosely translated into time-management, means… y’all won’t be hearing much from me for the next 3-4 days, most likely.     I have newly dyed yarns [...]

First BRS of August!

Okay… first of all… WHERE THE HECK DID JUNE AND JULY GO??????
Anyway….
First bundle of the month! There are 10 Socks and 4 Dura-Lace, so be sure to scroll to the end and claim all the ones you want. NONE of these are of my standard colorings; most are Dump Dyes (using up small amounts [...]

Wavey?

Okay, so I got this one done, just a couple more shapes to work on.   First the pic, then the comments:

Now that I’ve put away the camera and put the piece back into the workbasket, I realize that the lower right curve wasn’t smoothed out for the picture.
Anyway, it is knit flat back and forth,  [...]

Wow–what a collection!

Large selection this time! There are 12 Socks and 18 Dura-Lace, so be sure to scroll to the end and claim all the ones you want.  NONE of these are of my standard colorings–many are “similar” but these are either “inaccurate dye jobs” or experiments or simply Dump Dyes (using up small amounts of leftover [...]

Testing a Concept

Just a quick picture to show off what’s on the needles today.    This is still part of the shapes project, so please don’t think I’m running away from the shawl.

I’m using coordinated kitchen cotton for testing this, in order to have definite stripes to show off the shaping better.   The stitch count on EVERY row [...]

Reality happens, even here

Well… UPS did not bring me a box of yarn yesterday.
Which means I will not be dyeing up a bunch of yarns this weekend (although I do have a few that can be done, and therefore will be done);
Which also means I have NO EXCUSE (dang it) for ignoring long-overdue household chores.   For the greatest [...]

All Done But the Bind-Off!

Woohooo!  Check it out!!
It’s a little brighter with the flash and indoor lighting, huh?   And I tried to finger-push the lines as straight as I could, without actually pinning and blocking it into perfection, since the top bind-off isn’t done.
You can see, by viewing the design on the rug beneath it, that it really [...]

My Day, in one picture

I think this is probably the first time I have ever had almost the entire cycle of stuff happening all at once on the porch:

Up there at the top row is 4 hanks of yarn destinated for Oregon (hi Awntie…. see? I didn’t forget you!) ; those are partly obscured by shadow, but no one [...]

Every silver lining has a cloud…

Please ignore that quivering shapeless blob, curled in a fetal position, whimpering over there in the corner.
The day started so very, very well.   I slept well, and woke with near-full enthusiasm, ready to tackle the bins of yarns that were now ready for dyeing.
And then I saw it — the top layer of  yarns in [...]
