Knitting through the sweat.

Blast it all!
My A/C unit went out this morning.  Within an hour it was beastly hot in here, and far cooler OUTside than in.  So I had both doors open, and both fans running full blast, while I waited for the landlord to show up.    I kept on knitting on the machine, though, because [...]

It’s beginning to look a lot like ….

Xmas Xing!
Here is a sample felted swatch, fresh from the washing machine!

No, no, that’s NOT what the final project will look like.   I was just seeing how the cables would felt up against the reverse stockinette background.
I was planning to present the 2008 Holiday Stocking as a pattern and/or kit, but now I’m thinking [...]

Knitter of the Week - June 23, 2007

It took me forEVer to find someone whose work not only caught my attention (there are gazillions of fabulous knitters out there!), but offered something in the way of technique I had not personally seen before.
I’m going to declare Busy Mom for this week’s Knitivity Knitter of the Week because of this particular stitch design:

I [...]

Yesterday’s DyeJobs!

This are the 18 skeins that I dyed yesterday. These will all be rephotographed tomorrow for posting on the sales pages, but I wanted to show y’all a preview first.
I managed to re-wind all the sock yarns so they are pictured in a safely secured knot. The first two are previous colors but new to [...]

Progress is progressing progressively well!

Last week (?) I mentioned that I’d asked Brown Sheep about their “policy” re: relabeling their yarns.
Last night the owner called back.  He had to consult with his wife as to prior policy before letting me know for sure.  Gotta love dealing with family-owned companies when the owner calls back, huh?
Anyway, the policy about needing [...]

Into the DyePots, and other stuff

Yesterday I did up what was intended to be a bunch of Biagio sport weight in MINT … I”m not sure it came up that way, but after spinning and hanging I’ll know for sure.
This morning I’ll be doing up a repeat of the Lake Berry in the Down Home Art Yarns SOCK and [...]

Truly Tuesday!

It’s such a good day!
Jo, over at Celtic Memory Yarns, just wrote up about her intentions for the Merino Lace yarn she got in the Watermelon Ice color — knee-high lacy socks. Now, Jo’s write-up of her vision for the finished socks would make a good girl blush (well, in another era perhaps), [...]

Shrug!!

Hey, ya’member a couple days ago the lacework that fell off the knitting machine?
Well yesterday I knitted another 200 rows and bound off the ending edge.   Then I picked up along the blue starting edge and created the first cuff edge.
I discovered my camera battery dieing as I took the picture, so it’s in [...]

To hank or to ball? Hmmmm

One of my customers commented about preferring yarn pre-balled rather than having it in hanks.
Those of you who have been following along know that I dye the yarn in hanks, and then I rewind it into a different  sized hank.  Changing the ratio of the hank allows the colors to blend around, which drastically alters [...]

<*dirty word*> <*dirty word*>

I’m just no good at ANY thing. I should throw away all my books and all my yarns and all my hooks and all my needles and all my hopes and all my dreams, and go dig a hole and crawl in and pull the dirt on top of me.
Well, okay, maybe not.
Here’s the [...]

June 16 Knitter of the Week!

Ta-DAAAA!!!!
I gave you a teaser the other day about today’s Knitter of the Week. It is Annie, from Massachusetts, who created this amazing awesome beautiful Safari blanket to welcome a new Little One.
When I first discovered her page, at the top of the blog was an beautiful 5-pointed star Yarmulke — a virtual [...]

Feeling the pinch, reducing library

Hey kids!
Life is amazing, and I am relishing the opportunity to do what I want along this journey. But summertime is hard on yarn-dyers (and LYS owners, and everyone else).
Other people are reducing their stash in various ways. I have to reduce some of my library in order to cover basic expenses this [...]

My Next Dye Experiment

I was skimming through other bloggers and came upon SamD’s blog (Blogsam and Jetsam), where I found this STUNNING hybrid iris (scroll down to Sam’s Monday June 11 post; it’s the first picture of that day) — I think I would do it with mostly natural white on the hank, but at one end have [...]

Toooo funny!

I just went out to check the mail.
I got an announcement about the switchover from Time Warner Cable (which uses a faux astronaut in all its advertising) to Comcast. It’s just a guide to what will be difference with the new service provider.
But the cover is what caught my attention (for obvious reasons):

bwaahahahhaha!!!!!!

New Stuff! Woo-hooo!

These are the yarns I dyed this week:
First are the repeats of two popular bunches, the Magellan’s Orchid (the first batch was bought out by one individual!) and the Glacier Lake, both in lace.  These are the pictures of the current batch;

And then here are two NEW colors in the Down Home Art [...]

Mordant? What’s a “mordant”???

The other day, Dez asked (in the comments) about the Poolside yarns

since she is working a pair of socks from this dyelot.   And she asked (jokingly, I’m sure) if I used crack for a mordant!   And then Dave wanted to know how I got all those colors in there.
Well see, Dave, it’s like this:  [...]

School Colors, eh?

Okay, so I’ve got my School Colors pages all up and posted (link from the front page). Just for curious I went online to see if there might be a list of school colors, which might make it easier for me to pre-package some of the more popular ones.
HOLY CRAP! Well, I [...]

Out on the Kalahari, perhaps?

I just found my selection for Knitter of the Week for this coming Saturday. I was surfing around link to link to link and came across something very very cool (speaking of Mandalas, what I saw is like a five-pointed mandala figure!), and then I scrolled down to see what else I might find.
OH [...]

Geez, I hope I did that right!

I posted the School Colors Yarn Packs pages, as well as dividing out the various Yarns pages.   Start at the front page and you can see how I’ve broken it out.   I have checked, re-checked, double-checked, and then checked again each of the products, price buttons, shopping carts, and all that.    My brain is in [...]

Like a puff of smoke!

I can’t help but be impressed with this shot from the smoke plume of the latest Shuttle launch.   In the discussion of that evening, there was a link to another smoke plume even more striking.

I can see this done in either a Lace weight or even done up in Biagio for felting.  Shades of dark [...]
