More Customer Brags!

(Y’see, here’s the deal:   I get to brag on customers’ handwork, because they take my raw product and they make something fabulous from it!  Partly because they make such very cool goodies, and partly to show you what you can do with my yarns.)    eta: and partly because I did not knit these myself!
I just [...]

A Yarn about yarns

Wheee!     Mr. Brown just brought a box of sock yarns, so now I can re-do the failed U-Mich fan yarns, plus I just got a phone call from Oregon asking for some very special sneaky-surprizey custom dyed yarns.   So sock yarns into the pre-soak bin this evening for early morning dyes in the morning.  YAYYYY.

Fingering Buns?

(that’s not as naughty as it sounds!)
Okay, here’s the fingering weight bundles I told you about.   I love beautiful yarns when presented in buns like this.  There’s just something so edibly delicious, like a fantabulous holiday dessert brioche or something.    And seriously, if you don’t think certain colors belong with other colors, you’ve not appreciated [...]

She gloved it!

Annie in North Carolina bought some Aunt Gail Laceweight

a while back.
Now, just LOOK at what she made!   Woo-Hoo!   Way to go, Annie!

isn’t that cool!    She has way more gumption than I.
I love seeing the cool stuff people make from my yarns.

Color me… colored!

Okay, it’s Sunday, I’m befuddled, wishing I had some money.  And I’m thoroughly disappointed with all my attempts to knit and I’ve ripped out all my projects.     bah!
Y’member about 6 months ago we had a bit of rain?   They called it Hurricane Ike, and I was without power for a few weeks?   And [...]

Laces can be such fun!

Yesterday my brother wrote in his blog about the agony of dressing for work and at the least convenient time of day busting a shoe lace and then (adding insult to injury) discovering the new lace had a glob about an inch from one end, forcing him to re-lace his shoe from the top down [...]

Easy-Squeezy Lace

Hey!   Y’member the easy-squeezy lace stitch pattern I showed you on Wednesday?   Here, I’ll copy it:

Easy-Squeezy Lace
(S2SK = Slip 2 together as if to knit, Slip 1 as if to knit, knit those 3 together through back loop.  It’s exactly like SSK, but forcing the center stitch to lie on top rather than having a [...]

It’s HERE! It’s HERE!

I’m racing against tornado producing weather, can’t talk long, but this is on the front page:
The New Knitivity “Dura-Lace” is now available! This is a custom-designed lace weight yarn currenly available ONLY through Knitivity. It is 75% washable wool/25% nylon, created specifically to allow knitters to create their fine lace handwork without fearing for its [...]

One more day… yayyy!!!

I am waiting to hear back from the mill to ensure they can actually deliver.   But because you guys are special, here’s a sneaky:

While waiting for the mill to call back tomorrow morning (because the people who know what needs to be known aren’t there today) I’m busy updating my pages to add the new [...]

Th’storms expected

Gonna be a busy day.   I’m going to try and finish packing and shipping.   It’s been weird trying to get yarns to dry sufficiently for packing, and the ones I rinsed and hung yesterday still have more to go.  Weird, huh?  And today we’re supposed to have thunderstorms and crap floating overhead.   yuck.
And this afternoon [...]

24 Mar

Okay, not so bad

Woke this morning far too early (and I will indulge myself with a nap later, I’m sure), but not nearly as sore or bruised as I’d expected.  Maybe it takes a couple days for deep bruises to show.
Thanks for the good thoughts, y’all!
Busy packing-and-shipping today (and some tomorrow, too), but all the work-work dyeing is [...]

23 Mar

Mortally wounded (sort of)

I was checking the yarns outside.
Pleasant day, but really windy, gusts up to 22 mph,  so the yarns are double racked (a rod above on which they hang, and a second rod strung through near the bottoms so they aren’t blown to smithereens). On my front porch, to the side, I have a heavy 4×4 [...]

Knitivity Laceweight!

First off… I will NOT EVER do this again!
One of the boxes I got last week, the delayed box of yarns, was missing one skein.  It was the skein that I was told was delayed but only for a couple days, so I said, “okay, if it’s only a few days just hold the order [...]

Saturday’s Specials!

Wheeeee!!!!
Here ya go! These are the Specials yarns. All of them are made from leftover dyes from other jobs.
First, here’s two skeins of sock yarn and one skein of worsted weight. The socks have basically the same colors, but the top one is treated pretty much like I normally do in applying the dyes, and [...]

21 Mar

My body sucks, can I have yours?

This morning I was out on the pad, reskeining dyed yarns, racing to get the work-order jobs reskeined for packing before the mail lady came around.   I was about a third of the way through the bin as she drove by.  Dammit.    But that just means the dyed orders will be shipping on Monday.   And [...]

I flunked counting

Okay, this is just weird.   And frustrating.
I’ve been working on this green lacy piece.   In a couple of segments I realized I’d missed or dropped a stitch somehow.   And then a few rows later, even more segments were coming up short of the count.
Well, I’m no dummy.   I knew enough to just put it aside [...]

Frivolous, but sooo COOL!

apparently this video is making the rounds (I just got the link from the GLB-Knit list).
I suppose even on a working sheep ranch they need to have some fun, and this is definitely fun.

Isn’t that cool?

17 Mar

Ooops, my bad!

Oh wait.   First, the good news!
WE HAVE YARNS IN THE HOUSE!   Several people have been waiting for dye jobs, and most of the yarns for that have now arrived, and are soaking in the bins for a dye session this afternoon.   Others (Yo, MIKE! and BETHANY!   and LYNNETT!) I just checked my credit card online [...]

answering Confetti questions

okay, after the previoius post, Danielle and Nancy had questions:
Danielle asked:
You say “non-repeatable” does that mean you cant repeat the colors or the method you used to dye it?
Yes.  Those were just leftover colors I splashed on instead of doing a dump-dye.  I don’t even remember what colors were sitting on the counter at the [...]

Confetti time!

But first…..
here’s the latest iteration of my attempt to follow instructions.   Working with Down Home Solids, 100% wool, in #24-Evergreen, working straight off the cone (over 70 colors to choose from!), I’m using the sport weight on a Size 5 needle.  It’ll look even better when it’s blocked out.  Lace knitters recognize this looks very [...]
