Amorphous Blob?

G’morning!

This is how far I got last night. By my measures, I have the 2nd round to finish, and then a 3d round to start and finish, then a sizing border. Probably won’t finish it this weekend, but maybe by next?

(yeah, go ahead … click it)

I have some packages to ship out this morning, and then some patterns to be writing, so I probably won’t get to knit until later this afternoon.

Still trying to figure out how to get to Yarn Harlot’s event on the 18th. Normally it wouldn’t be so hard to find a ride there and back, if I were just going for the sake of going, but as hat coordinator I need to be there before the door opens (which opens an hour before the event, so I need to be there an hour and a half or so before the event), and then stick around afterward in order to pack up the hats and make sure everyone is acknowledged and so forth. If I don’t have a ride secured by mid-week I’ll have to let them know that someone else needs to fill the role. I don’t want to do that, of course, but we’ll see what happens.

Much as I hate the thought, I might have to at least get a drivers license so I can borrow a vehicle if ever I need to (like now). I used to drive. My last car died in 1989 and I couldn’t afford the repairs it needed. After a few months of withdrawal I learned I didn’t really need a car. And now I know for a fact that I do not want to get sucked into a car note, insurance premiums, gas, oil, gas, parking, gas, tires, gas, and all the other costs associated after covering the price of a car. (Isn’t it amazing — people jump into making a purchase because they think they can afford the price, but then discover they can’t easily cover the cost of owning/keeping that item. Sure you can afford the price of that new entertainment system, but then you need to get a cable or satellite content provider system, DVDs/CDs to use on that system, the cost of electricity to run the system…. blah blah blah. Just get a damned radio and be happy!)

With the next Presidential election campaigning already starting (EEK!) it is time to ask: Are you registered to vote? If not, now is the time to make sure. Be a participant in the process. Yes, the process has flaws, and yes, the process could be better, but it’s the process we currently have and you cannot change the process unless you are a part of it. (duuh)

THIS JUST IN: Americans vote on the Tuesday after the first Monday in November. Because of the importance of all the issues this coming year, and the anticipated volume of voters, it has been determined that a split polling date is the only way to make sure every gets to vote. Those who will be voting to support gay civil unions will be voting on Tuesday. Those who will be voting against gay civil unions are invited to vote on Wednesdays. This will ensure everyone will be heard.

Marriage is a religious issue and should be confined to the realm of religious institutions, but the legal benefits extended to couples is a necessity for all of society — insurance, health benefits, power of attorney, and all the other legal benefits extended to straight couples who have committed to each other are absolutely proper for gay/lesbian couples who have similarly committed to each other, as shown by shared housing, shared financing, and similar symbols of shared living as a couple. Heck, even straight couples merely living together have more rights than gay couples. That is wrong. It’s a legal issue not a religious or morals issue. America was built on the principles of liberty and equality. Allowing same-sex civil unions will not destroy anybody else’s marriage or legal rights.

Those who have a problem with same-sex civil unions are invited to write their response in the box below:

(be sure to print clearly)

Anyway, onward into the day we go.

If you had a driver’s license, you could rent a car for the day so you could go to the knitting event. I don’t know if Executive Leasing (or Rent-A-Car) is in Houston but if not, no doubt there is a similar company. They will come to your house and pick you up if you need to rent one of their cars and then when you take it back, they’ll bring you back home.

Ray, have you thought about bartering for a ride. I am sure there is a way to find about about bartering clubs in your area, and with your skils in dyeing and knitting you could work a trade. You might even be able to check Craigs list. Just a thought

I sure wish I were able to go, ’cause I’d give you a ride.

And I could not agree with you more about the gay marriage issue. Or the marriage issue. The only reason I see for anyone to get married is legalities. Certainly the only reason I’d get married would be if I needed it to get on my partner’s insurance or vice versa. And I do not expect to change partners at any point. Our commitment to each other is personal, and no one’s deity or legal system has anything to do with it. Hmph. :-)

Wish I lived near you and I would give you a ride. Too bad US cities don’t believe in having effective public transit like in Europe. Love your “This Just In” nice dig on the malfeasance of certain folks during the last election. Best wishes and hope you get to go be the hatter!

You are so right about the marriage for all! I do not understand why these neo-cons are so scared to let it happen. Are they afraid that it will detract from their marriage? If so, how? I am a straight mother of two adult women and I read all this stuff and am ashamed that this country is discriminating the way it is. One of my daughters has refused to get married until all her friends can also be married. She has many gay, lesbian and trans friends. So she lives with her male partner and 9 month old child. Though I would love to see her get married, I totally support her and her cause. I hope the next administration creates a climate of openness and willingness to change this discrimination.

Have you tried looking at craigslist for a ride? It might work :)

    Hey,

I live in Atlanta and would be willing to help you out with transportation. Obviously, I’m not in Texas, but I just got a notice from Airtran and the flights to and from Hobby are $89 each (one way). Seems like you are willing to put some money towards the trip, but I don’t know how much. I will happily get you around town if you get yourself here and hop on MARTA. ($1.75 each way) If that helps at all, let me know!

I was going to offer, as I live in College Station, however, it occurred to me that 18th = Tuesday = the day I have class. I’m trying to come up with crazy plans that do not involve me missing class. What is the timing of your problem? I might be able to swing you a ride one-way…

Amazingly enough, even though we have gay marriage here in Canada, society hasn’t fallen apart, hopefully your Supreme Court will step in one of these days & make it a non-political issue like ours did. It’s basic human rights not religion.

I just found this site cuz I was reading the Harlot. What is that magnificent piece of work at the top of the page. I am in love, lust. Need to know.

Where are you? I’m in Jersey Village. If you’re not like in Pearland or Sugarland, I may be able to come and get you. My friend and i were planning on going early to eat a Cheesecake Factory (Woodlands)before and then go to the event. We could get you there in plenty of time by dropping you off before we go eat and then stay and help with the hats and bring you home. Or we could drop you off at Twisted Yarns and you could hitch a ride with Shelley or Eve to the school and hook up with me later for a ride home. let me know.

Add me to the “where are you?” list — I will be at the shop by 3-4pm. The school is next door, so an easy walk. Depending on where you are at, I could hook you up!
