Postcard Challenge Yarns!
Okay…. So here we have the new Hadrian’s Wall:

taken from this postcard:

It appears the blue picked up both the sky blue and the reflected blue of the water. I was aiming for the lighest blue, and that’s what went onto the yarn, but in the steamer it set up quite a bit richer than I expected — and I used a 1/8th solution! wow!
And then we have Dockton’s Sunset

interpreted from this image of the sunset over Dockton Harbor at Vashon Island

I’m not entirely happy with how this first batch turned out. The purple doesn’t show up well on the yarn (I added a little too much black into the purple), and the red-orange isn’t nearly orange enough for my eyes. So this will DEFINITELY be tweaked a little more to a black-to-purple-to-redorange fade. The coloring of the marsh grasses of the foreground came out fairly well, soI’ll keep that part.
SO…. here’s the deal… Both of these colors will be added to the regular line up (with the aforementioned tweaking of the recipes) at the regular price ($25.50). BUT, because you guys are faithful blog readers, you can have $2.00 off each skein, so each is $23.50 until TUESDAY ONLY.
(And yes…. if you purchase two of any thing here, it will count as a $50.00 order for the Stashbuster Stocking Drawing!)

November 8th, 2009 at 6:05 pmOMG Ray you are amazing…I am so glad you decided to make these a part of the regular line up since I wont be able to take advantage of the sale price but will definitely be getting the Hadrians Wall after the first of the year…..
November 8th, 2009 at 6:34 pmI’ve just looked at ‘my’ Hadrian’s Wall yarn…it’s so beautiful, Ray. You are so talented. The yarn does so capture the high moorlands and the secret pools…
November 9th, 2009 at 4:42 amThankyou!
Gotta agree with the others, Hadrians Wall is fabulous. I love Vashon Island because its from my home state so can’t wait to see the tweeked version, but looking at it up close and personal, I want some. Would love to have socks that I could say were made from Vashon Island sunset yarn
November 9th, 2009 at 5:22 amWow! Hadrian’s Wall is AMAZING.
November 9th, 2009 at 10:27 amI am blown away by how the Hadrian’s Wall Postcard looks as a yarn! Ray - truly a master dyer. I sent an email about purchasing this colourway in Dura Lace (and possibly the Vashon Island/Dockton Harbour) depending on whether or not the Mother of Pearl is still available.
Stay well - from Winnipeg, Canada
November 9th, 2009 at 2:07 pmJust superb. I can hardly wait to start something in Hadrian’s Wall. MaryAlice
November 10th, 2009 at 7:55 amOh wow! An other one in agreement, that Hadrians wall yarn is scrumptious…….
November 12th, 2009 at 12:18 amHi Ray! I’m wondering if you have a photo yet of the “tweeked” Dockton Sunset. I was really interested in that one and on my monitor the first batch looks red/black/grey/white - not purple/orange at all. I’ve been waiting to see the “perfected” version.
November 15th, 2009 at 8:44 am@Kate: That’s on today’s agenda!
