Going Back To School?
Everyone seems to be getting ready for “Back to School” days. Pretty soon the kids will be out of the house again, and you’ll have the place all to yourself to knit all day long!
Yeah, okay, most people have a full day of work, chores, and so forth. But the kids are still going back to school.
And they will likely appreciate having their school colors knitted up into socks, or a scarf or hat, or some other garment they can wear to school.
I have two main dyeing sequences that I use for school colors:
The Long-Short-Short-Long:
and the Party-Favors Sequence:
I used to do a Long-Short-Short-Short-Short-Long (with four alternating short spans between the two longer end spans), but sometimes the short sequences would bleed too much into each other and create a muddy mess.
Because some colors do not work well in the LSSL sequence, no matter what I do, I need to know your school colors to make sure I can make you happy with the results. But I would love to see pictures or examples of your favorite school, college, or professional sports team colors. Because of licensing restrictions, I cannot use the exact Pantone colors for college or pro teams, but I can come close enough that a true fan will recognize what they are supposed to be. (and seriously, many colors do fade over time, right?) A few years ago I was featuring “My Me Doll Fins” and “Yoo Nork Mets” as regular colorways, but it looked like I was favoring those teams.
If you have a pair of colors that you’d like to knit up into a 1 or 2 skein project (hats, scarves, etc.), drop me a note by email, include some example pictures or a link where I can see the pictures, and tell me what you want to make and what yarn you want to use.
It is too late to have things in time for Back to School, but if you order now you will have the yarns in plenty of time to knit goodies for the holiday season.
I will be back tomorrow with pictures of how these look when they are dried and reskeined for presentation.
