First up is “Mardi Gras“. Mardi Gras is March 4, 2014, but Carnival season begins January 6 (the day after “Twelfth Night”), and people like to start wearing their colors (Purple, Green, and Gold) as soon as Carnival season begins. In order to ensure peole have time to knit their socks, scarves, hats, whatever, this colorway can only be ordered through Sunday, October 20. This will help ensure all yarns are dyed and shipped before Thanksgiving. The sooner you order, the sooner your Mardi Gras yarns will ship.
This one started as a request to replicate a Blog Reader Special, making 4 hanks the same. The original BRS was a random dump dye of colors that came out spectacularly. As I looked at the pictures of the original, what came to mind was what I’ve seen in pictures of a lava flow: the yellows, oranges, reds of the hot molten lava, underneath the cooling brown-black ash.
So it was dyed in segments with some blending and dye migration:
And here it is after reskeining:
And after binding for presentation, shown on Knitterman’s Lace (bottom), and Knitterman’s Fingering (top):
This is the image that will appear on the Custom-Dyes page:
Subsequent batches may have less yellow, but as a custom dye it can be modified to your liking. And there are six colors here, so it will work for the Party Favors version as well!
So, if you’d like one or more either of these colors, use the order form here to ensure your 15% intro discount:
