Hotter’n Hades, Round Two
Awwrighty, then!! Heat index up over 100F today, and the 10-day forecast doesn’t show much relief until mid-week. Right now it is 94F, feels like 105F. Mid- to upper-90s all week, maybe a bit of rain Wednesday or Thursday.
On Thursday, my daughter-in-law, my granddaughter, and her boyfriend came and really did a number on the growth along the fence on the east side. Check it out…
I should have gotten some pictures of the “Before” state of things, but this is after they’d been out there an hour. There are a few actual trees, and all the space between was filled with vines and ‘stuff’ growing up. They made a good start here.
They worked their way back along the fence, pulling down the vines, most of which had grown up into the trees and were thoroughly entangled. Lots and lots of pulling to get that crap out of there. It didn’t help that the guy who did the clearing a couple years ago didn’t get all the vines out of the trees, so there were dead, hard clumps of stuff in the mix as well.
I didn’t do any of the actual clipping and cutting, but several times I did find a vine hanging down. I’d pull and pull (some were 15-20 feet long!), and others were so tangled up in the trees, I put my whole weight into it to bring the branch down, and Josh would reach up and cut the vine as high as he could. Imagine a trebuchet when you cut the cord, how the bucket flies up. O’course the guy holding the bottom of the vine (i.e., me) also took a recoil when it was cut.
That was on Thursday. I didn’t really start feeling it until yesterday afternoon, and this morning woke so stiff and sore! No bueno, no bueno! But this side of the yard looks SO MUCH better now!
I can still see some vines hanging down, but they’re mostly over in the neighbor’s side of the yard. Maybe they’ll take a hint….?
So anyway, I have the yarns pulled for dyeing, but I truly did not relish the idea of standing with the steamer going for a few hours. My a/c does work, but living in a tin can it is not really effective. So there are no dyed yarns to show today. Mostly I’ve been guzzling water and Gatorade, and sitting in front of the fan, and popping analgesics for my back. I really did put my all into trying to help the youngsters as much as I could, and boy-oh-boy I am feeling it. The plan is to get up and dye early in the morning, so there should be new yarns to show tomorrow. If I’m all done with the steamer by mid-day, I should be okay. 🙂
And possibly I may put in a BIG yarn order on Monday or Tuesday, but more on that when it happens.
